The Standings

Olivier: Hey, Deb, why did you post our bowling standings?
Debi: Well, I just thought John and Leone might be interested in how well we are doing.
Olivier: Don't be ridiculous. Nobody cares about our bowling scores. Post some standings that are really important!

So here they are - the standings that are apparently really important ( honestly, how do I get in the middle of these things!)

Catching up

Every Sunday morning I look forward to getting a call from my dear friend Lorraine back home and we have a great chat but lately she has been giving me a hard time because I haven't been updating this Blog. So, Lorraine, John, Leone and anyone else who us interested here is a hodgepodge  of pics and captions to bring you up to date.

When I mentioned to our friend Mary that we like German food she and Pat  drove us to Sanford to the best schnitzel restaurant  ever!

This pic didn't turn out quite right somehow but honestly I was standing on my tippy toes!

Not on the same day as the schnitzel feast of course but I have always wanted to try a bacon topped  donut  and there is a great donut shop in Cocoa- the verdict is in - bacon is good on EVERYTHING!
Olivier went for his favorite - an apple fritter which was big enough to feed a family of 4.

So this is the launch of the Falcon heavy rocket that you probably heard about. Didn't look much bigger to me but was very loud and the rocket boosters came back down with a big sonic boom

Elon Musk, the head honcho of SpaceX sent up his first Tesla car in this rocket , and if you look really closely....
just kidding !! You can't actually see the car although we have a friend down here who thought we would be able to - sad to  say she's Canadian1

Lots of interesting creatures wander around here.

We always stop for the Sand Cranes- these two were out on a leisurely stroll down the middle of the road and held up traffic for quite some time.

Last Monday was a big event in Titusville - The Food Trucks were in town and Pat and Mary joined us  for a great evening out.

And we don't just eat when we're here (although some times it seems like that's what we do)  but every Monday we  go bowling- That's our team The CanAm's in second place. Sally, the most competitive one on our team was thrilled - I, on the other hand fear we peaked too early. We'll see.

So, that's it for now Lorraine. I will try to do better in the remaining weeks we are here. Thanks for your interest. Talk to you next Sunday.

Hush Hush

After a 2 month delay Spacex finally got another Falcon 9 rocket launched last night.
This one was special for two reasons. First, it is the largest payload to date and secondly the payload is very hush hush. No one knows what the rocket was carrying which is most unusual.
The booster landed safely after about 10 minutes and a very loud sonic boom.

Tradition

Our New Year's celebration down here is all about tradition.
So that meant we went to our favourite Mexican restaurant with Joanne and Guy, as we always do.
Then it was back to our place for a while and then  on to the street party 2 blocks away to watch the 'ball' drop at 10pm ( apparently midnight is too late for us old folks!)
Jan 1 was dinner at Joanne and Guy's for a delicious meal.

I had a regular sized margarita , Joanne went for the mega-sized  one
Waiting for the ball to drop
Ok, so the ball is not the size of the New York  ball,
more like a golf ball ( which seems fitting for down here!)

Guy BBQ'd cornish hen for us - delicious!

However tonight I am hoping to break with tradition and win the powerball lottery - it is a huge jackpot- well over $500 million. Let's see how that works out.

Happy New Year Everyone!

Finally!

Yesterday was a newsworthy day for several reasons. After many delays for mostly technical reasons the Spacex rocket finally is on it's way to the International Space Station. It was a significant accomplishment given that last years attempt blew up the launch pad causing 50 million dollars worth of damage as well as the fact that this is the first time a space ship and the rocket booster have been re-used ( and can be used again actually!). After liftoff we waited about 10 minutes for the rocket booster to return to the space centre and land perfectly and then a few minutes later we heard the sonic boom.
Now the crew of the ISS will have literally tons of food and Christmas presents!

That little dot in the sky is the rocket

Christmas in the TGO

I know I haven't Blogged much lately but it is not because we haven't done much - on the contrary we have been so busy that I haven't taken the time to update this.
Christmas in the TGO is always full of activities. The golf cart parade was Friday night and even though there was a threat of rain, the weather was perfect and it was great fun.
Saturday night we went to an 'Ole Time Social' with a 1920's theme. Lots of food and dancing and fun.
Last night was the Christmas De-lights street party party on the 2 streets that go all out in decorating. I have already included pics of those streets in a previous post but last night included music, Christmas treats and best of all a canned food drive for the Titusville Food Cupboard.
So, back to 'normal' for a few days- Bingo tonight of course. I know John K. is anxious to know how much we have won so far. So lets put it this way John - we have won about as much as the Senators have lately!

Happy Hannukah Everyone!

Walking with Pat and Mary last night enjoying the street party

Our neighbourhood

We went for a little walk around the neighbourhood last night and as you can see everyone has been busy getting ready for Christmas.
We can share these pictures but it is unfortunate that we can't share the wonderful music, the dancing Santas, and the sparkling lights that are everywhere- it is quite magical!
