The food truck came back

So this time we decided to go 'Southern' and try something called Chicken and Waffles - it was an excellent choice.

This picture should tell how good the chicken and waffle is!

Erin and K. can't believe Chris ate the whole thing!

Casino Night

Last night we attended a Charity Casino Night. I forget the charity, oh yeah, it was Alzheimer's!!!
Our admission ticket included $10 worth of chips for each of us. When we were down to our last $5 of chips we decided to bet it all on the #5 horse at the horse racing table. We figured we would loose it all and go home early so we could wake up early for the Canada gold metal hockey game.
Well, it didn't work out that way. Our horse came in and we won $50 in chips! Then I took my winning over to the Nascar table where I won $100 dollars on car #21. It was great fun but it wasn't 'real' money, just chips that could be exchanged for donated gift baskets to the top 7 winners of the evening.
I couldn't find anyone who had more chips than us so we thought we might have a chance to win something. We stuck around to the bitter end and as our friends left they gave us their unspent chips until we had amassed $442 in chips.
Turns out that was good enough to win the 5th give-away basket filled with over $400 of restaurant gift cards, clothing, etc.
We took a golf shirt and a restaurant card and then shared the rest of the basket with the friends who so generously shared their chips with us.
Even though it turned out to be a late night we still managed to get up to watch the hockey game!

Lots of great stuff in the basket but we decided not to bring home the alligator head!

Bacon, anyone?

The Kennedy Space Centre borders on the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge and prides itself on caring for  the all wildlife on its land. So naturally our tour bus had to stop to let this family of wild boar cross the road

Another Florida retirement

Atlantis - over the years we have seen it launch, we have seen it land so it was only fitting that we should go to the Kennedy Space Centre to see it retire.
And because the Space Shuttle program is over and the Orion project has not yet begun we got a rare opportunity to get inside the the massive VAB- the Vehicle Assembly Building. Next week when they begin to build the Space Launch System rockets for the Orion project this building will once again be off-limits for years.

This shuttle has been working since 1985

These fuel tanks were real but empty they assured us.

The cargo area of the shuttle.

It always makes us proud to see that Canadarm

Well, everyone always wants to know this!

The VAB is 129,428,000 cubic feet and 525 feet tall.
It is difficult to capture just how massive it is in pictures.

The tour of the VAB gave us an opportunity to see Launch Pad 39A up close.
Many of the shuttles were launched from here.

This is the crawler that took the shuttle and rockets from the VAB to the launch pad. It is the largest self-powered land vehicle in the world, travels no faster than 1 mile an hour and get 37 feet per gallon.

They're back!

With all the rain and cooler nights around here the wildlife seemed to go into hiding. But a recent stroll around the nature trail showed that everyone is back and enjoying the sunshine and warm weather and so are we!

This gator jumps in the water whenever he hears the click of a camera

He may be the only camera shy gator in history
